Umberto Eco

The philosopher and writer Umberto Eco is one of the most renowned living Italians, and one of the last true polymaths in Europe. He has been teaching semiotics at the University of Bologna for thirty years; his novels are bestsellers. In his polemical newspaper columns he provides commentary on contemporary cultural affairs from a radical democratic perspective.
